More Than Just Paperwork: Finding My Voice in the Legal World

My practicum experience has been welcoming and supportive from the very beginning. At first, I was nervous about what to expect, but Ms. Chambers, Ms. Tammy, and Mr. Rojas were patient and kind, which immediately made me feel comfortable. Through this opportunity, I was able to observe court trials and witness the legal process firsthand—something many high school students do not get to experience. The environment encouraged me to ask questions and grow professionally within the workplace.

I was also able to observe and participate in different aspects of Ms. Chambers work. This included visiting the jail, listening carefully as she spoke with inmates, and watching how she maintained professionalism in every situation. I followed Ms. Tammy as she processed necessary paperwork, kept records organized, and ensured that letters were properly prepared and sent. Seeing the attention to detail required in this field helped me better understand the responsibility that comes with working in the legal system.

Overall, my practicum has been one of the most rewarding parts of my senior year in the Legal Studies cluster. Everyone consistently showed appreciation for my help, which encouraged me and boosted my confidence. I especially appreciated the support from Ms. Chambers, who helped me feel capable and motivated to continue pursuing law. The positive atmosphere made each day enjoyable, and I learned that mistakes are part of growth as long as you learn from them.

This experience is one I would strongly recommend to any high school student interested in a legal career. It provides real world insight into the field and helps prepare you for the next steps after high school, especially for those planning to continue along the law pathway.
