Key International Treaties Influencing U.S. Schools

Several international treaties and conventions serve as a foundation for laws affecting educational practices within the U.S. One of the most significant is the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which establishes considerable rights for children, including the right to education. Although the United States has not ratified the CRC, its principles have influenced many domestic policies and educational systems.

Moreover, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also plays a key role by promoting educational standards globally. By adhering to UNESCO guidelines, U.S. schools aim to integrate international best practices that enhance educational access and quality.
